These are the event times for the upcoming academic year. Feel free to leave feedback, but these are the best times I could find that were left.
September 8th - 10am to 5pm (7 hours) Pong Expo
October 16th - 5pm to 5pm (24 hours) OctÜber Fest
November 20th - 4pm to 6pm (26 hours) Winter Wonder LAN
March 5th - 4pm to midnight (32 hours) March Fools
May 7th - 4pm to 6pm (26 hours) Aloha LAN
We will also see the return of meetings, but in a bi-weekly format. Meetings are currently scheduled for 9pm to 10pm on Thursday nights but I may consider them to go until 11 if there is interest of a mini LAN. The dates are as follows:
September 10th
September 24th
October 8th
October 22nd
November 5th
November 19th
December 3rd
December 17th
EDIT-
You may have noticed the lack of Simply Console events. I have decided that there was just not enough turnout, as well as our lack of funding - so these events were cut.
Aloha LAN? Does that involve getting lei'd?
I'm sorry, that joke is just terrible.
And I would only be shocked if it came from anyone else but you X.
Are there going to be means for people who cannot make the meetings to still be a part of them? Say Steam chat or something? I will be teaching somewhere by then.
We can easily be in the IRC room for the meetings.
we can even have that up on the screen - We have northwoods, so it should be easy to do.
someone will have to communicate the goings-on at the meeting to the people on irc though
Stickam bitches.
If it's good enough for Leo Laporte it's good enough for me.
I stopped at talked with Doris yesterday. We now have a table by the terrace reserved during freshman registration. I work pretty much every day so I didn't have any plans to set anything up during their lunch but since it is an event me and longblonde were thinking of getting some posters done and slapping them up advertising the Expo. Or I may take a couple hours off around lunch time some day and sit out there with a TV and Trackmania, we'll see. Any thoughts?
chances are I'll be free for that, I could go for some trackmania or something.
Sounds like a plan, I'll try to get off for lunch a little early tomorrow and get to the MSC around 11 and wrangle up a TV.
Want me to get the bloody rectum posters done then?
Rectum... damn near killed um!
And yes, If you have time
sweet jesus man... we want to entice people to join, NOT send them running and screaming...
anyway, i see you guys are only going after the weirdest of the weird with that idea. i like it... that way we'll know they'll be dedicated nerds, not those half assed flaky geeks...
Don't worry, I only scared away half the kids I talked to, maybe twice as many parents.
yeah - parents HATE Pong - last year I had one ask me why I hated class so much... I guess it would have been funnier if it wasn't true...
college is actually pretty awesome, except for all the classes
longblonde, you don't hate classes... classes hate you
Just heard back about backyard bash:
I have you signed up for a table for this year's Backyard Bash. The new students will start arriving around 5:30pm that night. Please make sure that your organization is checked-in and set up ready to go right away. We have check-in schedule that day for 4:30-5:00pm and it will be located near the large rock sculpture on the South Lawn just outside of the MSC.
I will make a note of your desire for power. However, with the band, food, and inflatable's all being hooked up to the few power source we have on the lawn there is a chance that power will not be available. Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great rest of your summer and see you this fall.
We should have a plan for what to have at our table if we don't have power available.
rent a honda generator...
Stationary bike with dynamo...
route an extension cord to applied arts
Stationary bike with dynamo...
I thought video games and exercise were mutually exclusive?
That power bullshit comes up every year. Matt-O, tell 'em like it is!
hey, e.s. put a generator, a sound system and a live band on a trailer for homecoming... i expect pong could top that in creativity...
i think you might be screwed, though. i thought there was a chance then i looked at the email again and was reminded of the inflatables. those power-hungry sons-a-bitches put an incredible tax on the electrical system. between them, the band and the food, their two 60A outlets are pretty much used up.
there may be a slim chance, but it will involve some ground work. pick a flat panel monitor that easy on the powers and find out exactly what it's peak draw and the peak draw of your console of choice are. add those two numbers and that will be your max draw on the system. someone at e.s. should be able to do the math and find a hole for you to weasel into. may be your only option. if you do this, stick to your plan... use the equipment you quoted in your agreement.
if that doesn't work, i may vaguely remember walking very drunkenly past appa and micheels and noticing some hidden outdoor power outlets in the concrete planter things out front. but i may have imagined that just as easily.
either way, good luck. i have faith in you guys making the impossible possible.
I'll just solder the clouds to the trees - that should provide plenty of power for whatever we decide.
I kinda like the generator idea, dunno if that'd go over too well though. Also, I don't have a generator handy :(
For no power, I would suggest just sporting our typical table poster along with information that people can take with them (schedule, basic PONG info, etc...maybe on one sheet). We should also have something on our table poster that says something along the lines of "video games!" or "LAN parties!" so people know what PONG is about instead of having them ask us. I think that will draw attention much more quickly, because people really aren't going to stop and ask what we are about unless they are overly curious about an organization.
Edited for one spelling error. :3
well put sir
Hello
The Backyard Bash is just around the corner. I am so excited that so many of you are participating this year. For this event to run smoothly there are some details you all will want to know. Please read through this information carefully and let me know if you have any questions.
1- For those groups that asked for power…We WILL NOT be able to provide this for you. We will be using both of the exterior power supplies during the Backyard Bash. I apologize for not being able to accommodate this request. I will keep a note in my files, however, so that if we have to move inside due to weather I can set you up near a plug in.
2- Speaking of RAIN SITE. The rain site this year is in the MSC. We have reserved a number or rooms and will set you up throughout the building.
a. THE EVENT WILL BE CALLED FOR RAIN BY 1PM TUESDAY THE 8TH PLEASE WATCH YOUR E-MAILS AS THAT IS HOW WE WILL NOTIFY YOU OF THE CHANGE IN VENUE!!!
3- Check-in! Organizations are asked to arrive at the South lawn between 5:00-5:30pm on Tuesday September 8th. The new students will arrive beginning at 5:30.
a. Check-in will be located just outside the MSC near 3rd street and the rock sculpture. Tables will be assigned so you MUST check-in prior to setting up a table.
b. If it rains the check-in will be located on the lower level of the MSC between The Pawn and the Underground
4- The event will end at 7:30pm. We ask that you please claps your table and return it to check-in table at that time.
Again if you have any questions please let me know. Tell your friends and members of your organization to stop on by because as always we will have free food, prizes, inflatable’s and more.
No power for backyard bash :( (unless it rains and the event gets moved inside)
Who did this come from?
rebecca wolf
Most likely Becky Wolf, the events coordinator in the MSC (SOC desk).
Question- Will there be cable sales (coax/etherwebs) at the expo?
Also, prices?
Question- Will there be cable sales (coax/etherwebs) at the expo?
Also, prices?
tl;dr
I don't see why we couldn't sell at the expo. IIRC, prices for ethernet is $0.25/foot, $1 for the ends, and coax is $0.50/food and $2 for the ends -- someone please correct me if I'm wrong
Close enough for government work
we sell coax food?
ROFLROFLROFL
Cable sale -- who's available tomorrow, and how early? Also Dan, if you're not around tomorrow morning, is there a way I could still pick up the stuff for the cable sale from you?
I will be around fairly early as long as my car starts.
I have nothing on my schedule but the cable sale so I just need to know what time we are setting up
I think move in starts at 8, I'm willing to start as soon as I've moved in and can get the stuff from Dan's place (or if someone else could pick it up, that'd be cool too)
Well, then, I guess that's your call fresca.
I'll be there at 8...working in CKTO.
FRESHMENNNNNN YEAHHHHHHH.
BTW, I'll be working on a Channel 20 slide ASAP when I get in and I'll put it up when I get it done. I'll make a round right away in the MSC and Commons to turn the TV's on, too.
Ok, here's teh deal-e-o
Me and Longblonde will converge behind CKTO around 6:45 am. Yes it's early, I'm aware. We are going to try and get the smash booth setup and cables sale stuff set out before 7:30 when he has to leave for work. Our logic is if we get there early enough we can just drive right out into the quad. So if your up, see you then. Otherwise see you when I see you.
The Network Upgrade Bat exists! - I have seen it and have brought it down from the mountain for the masses.
Dear god, the paint fumes are getting to me....
FIRE! WATER! BEER! WIND!
...
wait...
Are we at Backyard Bash tonight?
yes
